Radiation is an affliction that your character can suffer from. The higher the amount of radiation your character is exposed to, the bigger the drawbacks you will gain. Unlike Poison, Radiation will NOT go away on its own and has to be treated via drugs or otherwise medical care - or, in extreme circumstances, death.

There are two ways to deal with radiation, one proactive, one reactive.

Radiation Resistance

The proactive one is to make sure your character has a lot of Radiation Resistance. The main way to increase your Radiation Resistance passively is it to have a high amount of Endurance. Each point of Endurance currently adds 2% Radiation Resistance. While not much, a character with 10 Endurance already suffers 1/5th less Radiation damage. You can also increase your resistance temporarily with the use of a Gas-Mask (To be implemented), or with the Drug Rad-X (Drug), which gives you a 30% radiation resistance for a whole hour. Do note, that due to Rad-X being a Class-A drug, you may not take another Class-A drug during that time.

Radiation Removal

The reactive one, is to remove said radiation once your character is exposed to it. There are cheap and expensive ways of removing radiation. The cheaper option is to drink alcohol, or simply water. While you are limited in how much you can find, but also in how much you can drink, due to having a maximum amount of calories your character can take in a given time-frame, liquids are quite effective in flushing the radiation out of your system. A more expensive option would be the use of RadAway (Drug), which while harder to get by, removes 50 Radiation every 30 seconds for a whopping 200 total radiation removed after 2 minutes. Of course, there is always the option to die with your character, which would reset all afflictions anyway. However, this is hardly an option you would want to choose.

Sources of Radiation

There are four main ways to receive radiation, though there might be other mechanics that can also apply it onto a character. Do note, that ALL sources of radiation are lowered by your Radiation Resistance. Each time you receive radiation damage, you will hear a geiger-counter sound-effect.

Radioactive area

Staying in a radioactive area like Airfield, or an active anomalous zone, will periodically give your character radiation.

Food

While eating various food will give your character much needed nutrition for gaining the benefits of doubling your Healing Rate, you should watch out, as most Foods will give your character some Radiation. So always remember to eat AND drink!

Attacks

Some NPCs attacks, as well as some very specific weaponry, can apply Radiation Damage on hit. This is especially noticeable in Hospital, where the monstrosities there can not only radiate you, but also poison you.

Artifacts

The usage of Artifacts almost always comes with a Radiation penalty. This is something you have to be aware of and actively counter. As while the artifacts can have some very strong buffs, you should take care as to deal with the radiation damage it provides.
