Ashes of Phoenix offers a wide range of consumables - which will help (or hinder) your character to success. Knowledge of them is almost as important as the weapon you will be wielding and the armor you will wear.

There are several type of "consumables". In the more common sense, there are a variety of drugs and healing items you can have your character consume. However, this is not all there is. Other types of consumables might allow for entirely new playstyles, like stealth-boys in order to have your character stealth around. Or grenades, that are a secondary, or sometimes even primary weapon to be utilized. Backpacks, that allow you to carry more weight. Or a Defibrillator to be more efficient with reviving your teammates.

Drugs

Drugs are split into Healing Drugs, as well as temporary buffs (With drawbacks), which are further categorized in Class A, Class B and Class C Drugs. A full list of drugs and their effects can be found here: Drugs

Stealth Boys

There are 3 different kind of Stealth Boys, which are available in the second Era, as well as a Camo Netting, which is a cheaper, but much worse alternative to the Recon Stealthboy, which is however available in the first Era of the Season. Stealth Boys (and the Camo Netting) allow the user to enter Sneak. Without those items, going into Stealth is completely impossible. Especially Era 2 Stealth Boys are comparatively rare and expensive - and thus hard to come by. Which forces Sneakers to play more carefully, only further underlined by their very low resistances and off-positioning from their team.

A very simple consumable, that once used, will hide your name from enemies by "generalizing" it. This means, your name will be replaced with a more generic word, fitting to the faction you belong to. This will make it much harder for the enemy to call "assist" onto you, as you will most likely share a name with many of your teammates. (Only enemies of your faction will see this generalized name, your team-members will still be able to distinguish you. There is no real drawback on using this item)

Backpacks

Backpacks equipped in the Utility slot of your character will allow you to increase your Carry Weight. There is a Small Backpack available at Era 1, as well as a Heavy Backpack available at Era 2.

Grenades

Grenades could arguably be put in the "Weapons" category, as they, in most cases, are used as such. They are however in a broader sense "consumables". As using a grenade will remove it from your inventory and "use" it up. Additionaly, apart from the generic "damaging" grenades like HE Grenades, Molotovs and Gas Grenades, there are also a few Utility grenades, like Smoke Grenades that will block Vision, or Gravity Grenades, which knock your enemies around. Unlike weapons, Grenades can also be used from the Utility Slot of your Character - however, without the Grenadier perk, you will have to re-equip a grenade each time you throw one.

Healing Utility

First Aid Kits

First Aid Kits are a deteriorating item, that will buff your First Aid usage, according to the unlocked Item Perks of the FA Kit.

Doctor Bags

Doctor Bags are a deteriorating item, that will buff your Doctor usage, according to the unlocked Item Perks of the Doctor Bag.

Food

Eating food will give your character calories. Each point of calory is effectively 1 second of the food buff. Being buffed by food will double your character's Healing Rate. It is almost always a good idea to eat a meal before going out into the zone, as the added passive regeneration can be the deciding factor not just between life and death, but also on whether or not your team wins the encounter with the enemy or not.

Cookie

Cookie

Eating a cookie will grant you a 20% Experience buff for 20 minutes. This is especially useful when you intend to get a lot of XP in the next 20 minutes, such as exploring a bunch of zones, or reading a lot of books.

Books

Books are simple XP items. Reading a book will give you 250 XP (Modified by any XP Buffs you might have). You can either use them right away when finding them, in order to level up your character quicker, or keep them around in order to help out your friends, or even trade them away. Thus, XP is a very limiting way of trading away Experience. Books add a small cooldown - you can read up to 10 books, after which you would have to wait a few minutes, before reading some more.

Containers

There are various containers the game may throw at you. Currently, there are a few kinds of suitcases, which may have some goodies inside of them. Modbags exist as well, which hold a random Weapon Modification.

Pre-War Money

You might stumble upon coins from the pre-war era. They are not the active currency of any faction or the rats, which use faction-specific currency, or bottlecaps. However, you might come across various pre-war installations, such as vending machines or slot machines, which might still work and thus accept those coins.

Artifacts

Wandering across the wasteland, you might come across highly dangerous zones, filled with a plethora of anomalies that will kill you fairly quickly, if you act too careless. However, amongst the midst of those anomalies, you might find artifacts, that inhibit great power. There are a variety of different artifacts, each with their own unique effect, ranging from simple things like increased Damage Resistance or increasing your maximum Action Points, to more unique effects, like changing the Weather of a zone, being able to see dead bodies, or see the approximate location of where sound is coming from.

Gas Mask

Gas Mask

A Gas Mask is an effective way of fighting Gas, which is especially present in the mid-game of a Season. It has its own drawback of lowering your Perception, but can be a huge life-saver especially in-doors, where Gas can quickly overwhelm your character with a huge amount of poison.
